INHERENT ESCAPISM
Mixed media canvas
I aimed to explore various themes of emotion and mental states we visit through the lens of escapism - the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy. Our psyche contributes to how we view the world but equally escape it. Your Psyche is not your actual brain, but whatever it is that generates all of your thoughts and emotions. Psyche comes from the Greek psykhe, which means “the soul, mind, spirit, or invisible animating entity which occupies the physical body.” That about sums the way we understand the word today. People often struggle with emotion in various ways and use means of physical and mental outputs to positively or negatively avoid the real world. I used photography and mixed media art to help visualise this concept. I want to visual explore ways we deal with these situations and thought - furthermore the places we go when the world is too much or not enough.
